The final weekend of Beaufort’s polo season welcomed 4 teams to our Sidebottom Cup Finals, many a spectator and a wealth of generous attendees of Hospitality Action’s charity event. The final was between Hascombe Stud and AW Jenkinson. The teams had met on the field previously with Jenkinson taking the win, Hascombe returned with a vengeance and played their hooves off to take the win this time and the Sidebottom Cup for 2017. It was a competitive game with Jenkinson taking the initial lead and already with a ½ goal handicap they were fierce contenders looking to take the lead again. Determination flared in the Hascombe team encouraging them to fire back goals each time Jenkinson scored. The scores remained close until the 3^rd chukka when Hascombe lengthened the distance leaving the score 6 – 3 ½ in their favour. The fourth chukka saw Jenkinson push back gaining a further two goals, albeit, so did Hascombe taking their score to 8 and entitling to them the claim of the Sidebottom Cup.

The Subsidiary final brought together Santana and Senzaltro to pit for third and fourth place. As the last game of the season for many there was a relaxed and jovial ambiance to the game. Whilst the teams went flat out to each pitch end to have a shot at the goal many laughs were shared over the usual shouts of competition. Despite the Santana team winning the 2016 Sidebottom Cup it was Senzaltro that took the sub-final win at a final score of 3-1.

Well done to all teams in the tournament and to all others that have joined us over the season. A very lovely weekend of weather and play to see off the season really put a smile on club member’s faces. Prize giving was followed by a club prize presentation to include most improved player and most valuable club supporter which drew in a crowd to really salute the season over drinks and hog roast and later dancing! It’s been a wonderful season and we wish everyone the best success in their winter adventures – can’t wait until next year!!
